I'm a newbie and so far I'm really enjoying my aquarium. However, I noticed in the gravel what appears to be some strange white puffy matter that almost looks like small cotton balls. I am scared I have some aweful disease or fungus in my tank. I just set it up a week ago so I can't imagine what it could be. Any ideas?

Anything in the tank yet, and have you been feeding?

I have been freaked out a few times by cottonwood pieces in the tank.
Shrimp pellets also turn into white nasty looking balls if submerged for a few days.
I have a white cat that sometime likes to deposit fur pieces in the tank, not sure how that happens...
