Has anyone noticed that it is very hard to find Cardinal Tetras in their lfs's?

I went to 4 different places one day and none of them had any. Sure there are plenty of neons, but I really prefer the coloring of cardinals. When my tank finishes cycling, I hope to get a school of them, but it looks like that might not be a possibility until I move back home and can check out stores in that area.

Vermont doesn't have that many lfs's anyways...

Many stores won't carry them because of the cost and because they are a little more difficult to keep than neons.
They really prefer warmer and softer water much like discus.

If that's what you want, you could try asking if the lfs will order them for you. A lot of the smaller ones will.

I've noticed that the lfs seem to go in cycles in what they carry. You'll see a certain type of fish for several months and then you won't see them again for a yr of so, then they'll be back for several months.
I had that problem looking for balloon rams, couldn't find them anywhere for months, now two of the lfs are carrying them.

Hope you find them,
Donna
