When following 'per gallon' guidelines is wrong

157 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  susankat
Do you ever see those '[x] amount of [insert lifeform] per gallon' guidelines and wonder if they actually did it or they are just making stuff up?

For instance, guide says you can have 10 dwarf shrimp per gallon, but if you put 300 dwarf shrimp in a 30 gallon that might be crazy 🤪

Does anyone have a picture of 300 dwarf shrimp in a 30 gallon tank? I need a point of reference

So with a 350 litre tank on the way I could have an awful lot of shrimp if I wanted! Not that I would of course but interesting to know that I shouldn't have to worry too much about fitting a dozen or so in 🙂
It could help you guesstimate how many adults and how many offspring they produce so to have room for them to breed which is what all shrimp owners want isn't it?
I really could have at least 10 tanks to accommodate all the different species with a Shrimp tank for sure, they come in so many colors, how cool for you :D
Having 300 piled on top of themselves would be quite the sight
One inch per gal is wrong in so many cases, some people will put a 3 inch oscar in a ten gal tank , thinking 8 10 10 inch fish will fit into a 10 gal tank, When buying fish, always look into ffull grown size. length and overall width.
