Hi all,

A few months ago, I went on vacation for 2 weeks, and had someone come by and do a water change halfway through. I put an automatic daily fish feeder, and upon returning, 3-4 fish had died - some were already dead when my friend checked up on them at the midway point.

Not sure whether the feeder was under or overfeeding them (danios), but it just seemed to me that the system was not working well.

Have people tried using the dissolving shells instead? I've heard that fish can go for a very long time without food, so in some instances (long weekends) it may make sense to not feed them at all instead of risking overfeeding. Sounds mean, but might be safer.

What do you all think? Curious to hear about how you feed your fish when away. Thanks!

I'm surprised the danios died. Those things are usually bullet proof. I haven't left my aquarium for over a week, but I've always used the dissolving fish feeders and had good luck with them.
