Hi,

I recently decided to upgrade my fish tank with some large pieces of bogwood (both purchased from reputable fish shops). They have both been boiled for some time, but no matter what I do the larger of the two leaches bright blue oily liquid into the tank! Does anyone know what an earth is going on?! The bucket it has been soaking in has also gone a bright blue (only visible with a light on it). When emptying the bucket it appears more yellow colour water.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks
Pete

Hey Pete, welcome to the forum!

I would contact the place you purchased it from and see if you can exchange that one piece....or do they have any answers for you about what it could be? I looks like a chemical has soaked into the log.

I don't have any solid answer on what it is, but I would look into exchanging it anyway.

I agree with TG...it looks like that particular piece has been contaminated somehow.
Maybe its something they used to treat the wood prior to sale and this piece never got rinsed properly? just a guess of course.
Im sure youd be able to exchange it without a problem.

The colour is very close to Malachite green (turquoise hue).
Used as...
Antibacterial
Antifungal
Anti parasitic
I wonder if it was treated with this (or Methylene blue)?
It would do all of the above prior to putting it out for sale which makes sense.
Maybe a batch that wasnt washed got through somehow?
Who knows...i could be miles off?

Thanks for the responses! I brought the piece back in January. It’s been soaking since then whilst I got the tank ready. For the last week it’s also been boiling so I don’t understand why it hasn’t stopped leaching yet! Going to another shop today to get a replacement!
