We have an established 50 gal salt water tank. All the fish are peaceful, easy to moderate, and complete with live rock and corals. My wife is interested in seahorses and we are looking for recommendations, especially when it comes to plants. She wants to know if artifical plants are ok. Our waterflow is medium, but it can be scaled back to low - medium range.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

even though the fish you currently keep may be friendly, docile, happy go lucky, etc. its not so much a problem for the horses that they happen to be sharing the tank, the issue is the horses will not be able to compete for food. the horses are much slower than a normal fish and alot of the time depend on food to come to them or slowly pass by. i also was looking into horses for the wife and in the process found out it will save you alot of time and $$$ to set up a species only tank, that way you can take the best of care of these fragile animals. as far as plants go they love anything branching, especially gorgonians. gorgs can be hard to keep so bleached ones may be your best bet. they will also perch upon macro algaes like halimaeda and also sea fans. as you stated they will require a low flow to the tank and the species prefers a taller tank to a wider tank.
