New to these esoteric filter styles- and a freshwater fishkeeper at that-
I'm interested in adding a sump to my heated and lit up outdoor 55- I'd like to try a sump or a wet/dry filter, but I'm afraid of what may happen if the power fails- summer's coming soon and here in FL we get a lot of storms that knock the power out. - Is there some sort of reasonably- priced failsafe that'll shut off the siphon from the upper tank when the lights go out?
I would think so- -

As long as you have a check valve on your return line and don't overfill your sump, a power outage will not matter. Always fill the sump with water, turn your return pump on, and then mark the water level in the sump. Then when everything is running, you will now the full system capacity.

but if somthing blocks your overflow, thats a different problem all together.
