I just got some hairgrass and I pruned it after putting it into the substrate. Now there are cuttings all over the place and I cant get them all. Are there any tips on how to get them all or how to prune them in a better way.
You should have pruned them before putting them in, and also prune the roots to about 2mm. After this I typically don't prune, I pull out whole clumps if they grow where I don't want or get too dense.
I have seen others prune by cutting off small pieces at a time. For instance, if you want to cut off 1in total, cut it 3-4 times at quarter inch marks. The smaller cuttings will not get stuck as easy and will float to the top where you can net them. They also pass into your filter easier for ones you miss and breakdown faster.
If you have someone that can help you, you can prune during water changes. You cut while the other person siphons up the cuttings right behind you. It helps to have a valve that you can open and close on the vacuum.
