Like a bunch of you I had freshwater aquariums growing up. I kept all sorts of community fish and found them very interesting. when I moved away to college and started my adult life I stepped away from he hobby.

Last December one of my wife's friends was getting divorced and was moving from a big house to a little apartment. She had a 30 gallon saltwater set-up with a hang on back filter, a heater, white gravel and a single clownfish. $50 and I took it all home with me.

It was a very simple system. I kept everything, including the white gravel, but added about 20 pounds of live rock and put in a protein skimmer. I added another clownfish and a 6 line wrasse. I want to create a reef, but I'm taking it slow so I can learn and do it right, without spending big bucks all at once.

Last week I moved to a new house, it was all of a mile from my old one. Transferring the tank was pretty easy. I used 5 gallon buckets and rubbermade totes and was able to save all the water. When I took the live rock out of the plastic totes I found three small crabs. I never put crabs in the tank, must have hitched a ride with the live rock. My 9 year old daughter was thrilled with the new discovery. I wish I would have taken pictures of them before putting them back in the tank to help with identification, but I figure if they've been in there about 9 months without any problems I should be OK. Hopefully they won't grow too large.

My daughter and I spend a lot of quality time with the tank. She really likes how the two clownfish "play" together and how the live rock has turned purple. I look forward to finding answers here as we work towards building our little reef.
