So it turns out that the platties I got are a mix of male and female so I now have fry in the tank. Unfortunately I also have Giant Danio and no other tank so I am not sure if the fry will survive.

If you have lots of plants they can hide in I'm sure some will survive.

Hi!😃
Yeah! The plants will definitely help big time!
I heard that all you need to have 1 male and 1 female and water and you have babies!!😂😂😂
You just have to let nature takes its course, hon.
Keep us posted, please!😃

Yeah that is what I am doing right now.
When you have live bearers all it takes is one female as they hold sperm for at least 6 months, and will produce babies from it. If you don't want babies you choose all males.
Yeah I did not think about that when I got the platties, looking online I seem to have one adult male and two adult females. They seem to be doing alright (saw one after I gave all the fish dinner) but I worry about them getting food as they are supposed to eat more often (though there is a lot of algae in my tank). I hope the fry can bolster their diet with it and get any broken up pieces of flakes that reach the bottom (or places only they can reach).
I wish I could be indifferent about them but I am just too caring for that. Maybe I could use this other tank I have (it's empty and I would need another filter and for the platties to grow.
Actually they might be able to eat the algae after all. I just saw one of the fry poking at a leaf. Won't really be able to do much for them besides providing food so I'll hope they learn to survive.
I guess in the end I just have to remind myself that I am doing everything I can and even if they don't survive it's not a failure on my part. Still that doesn't entirely help with the guilt I feel in not being able to 100% guarantee their survival. Perhaps I'll talk this out with a therapist.

Aawww...it'll be fine, hon, really. I'd be extremely nervous too because I'd want them to survive as well! 😃 I'm praying and rooting for you and your little babes! Keep me posted, please!😃 maybe you can send a couple pictures of the little guys after they get through this "stage of existence"!😂😂😂😂
You would be surprised at the tiny little critters that live on plants and algae that they will find to pick on. Just when you do feed, crush the food small and put it near air/water flow to distribute throughout tank.

Yeah, I do that now, thanks for the advice.

Hi, our fish buddy!😃
I must admit... I sigh... I'm the same way as you are for I call them my babies. My husband rolls his eyes at me (he's the sensible one of us in our hobby), but, it still hurts some times though...
How are they doing now?

Well it has been 3 days and I still see at least one (kinda busy today so not really time to look) so they must be eating something.
Had a brief scare when I thought I saw one of the babies get eaten but I still see two of them (and no blood) so I think it was just being chased from the food (the fish can be competitive over food). Maybe the babies are too big to eat now or maybe my fish don't eat live food since I only feed them flakes (plus there is the algae in the tank).

Hi!😃
Aawww...fingers crossed!😂😂
Yes, I believe that any type of fish are bullies when it comes to dinnertime!😂😂😂
Sometimes, I just watch them, I like to. I ALWAYS overfeed. I know this is sorta "bad" but I do weekly water changes and they're happy campers and content. With mine I even "fast" at times but we have to watch because they will try their hardest to "find" something to eat and even if the smaller babies! 😳 but we don't allow them to and take care of it...sms...
Anyways, this is sooo encouraging hearing this, our fish buddy! Two thumbs up!!☺☺☺
I now see 4 young platties, 3 from when i first started seeing them, and a fourth that is a newborn. I don't know how many more my tank can support as adults so does anyone have any advice what I can do? I don't have the heart to kill them (I feel like a monster just bringing it up) and I don't think the Petsmart I bought the original ones from will accept donations.

Hi!😃
Wowzyyy! You have some babies too??
Pooh! Everyone seems to be having babies buttt meeee!!😞😞😞 well, I keep my fingers crossed.
Oh, I'm sorry...you don't want your babies? I'm sorry...geeze... I'm always told to just separate the males from the females and this will definitely cease them from having anymore but some fish carry sperm for a while sooo you'll have to wait that out though but you can do it.
I don't know about selling them back to the pet store but I've heard of folks doing this then they just give you credit. It doesn't hurt to ask though; you know?
How big is the tank. With pet stores they have to be a certain size. And with platties its going to be iffy if they take them. You will always have this problem as long as you have females.

Hi!😃
With any of the livebearers; 1 male+ 1 female, add water! Whammy! Babies!!!😂😂😂 this is what I've been told.
I do know that we have personally bought a couple of our babies from Petco that had been 'rehomed', if this helps...hmmm...
