I have a planted low-tech aquarium I have been trying to get ready for livestock but currently have none.. except I noticed something swimming in the water today. It honestly looks creepy and I don't know what it is. I assumed some kind of parasite that came on one of the plants? It has what looks to be a hook on its head and its translucent.

Does anyone know what it is and how I can get rid of it..?

Wow looks like it might be a larvae of some critter. Is the tank covered?

It is not covered no, I intended to put something like duckweed on top but have not gotten them yet

If it's a larvae ducked won't keep critters out. It could be a dragonfly nymph or other outside critters.

Oh wow, I've never saw one of those in my tanks. Looks creepy for sure though. Just out of curiosity, I would let it grow up to see what it is. Without adding fish yet of course. I would think that whatever it is, it won't take to long for it to grow up and move on. Interesting.

i had something like that but smaller in one my ecospheres and it turned out to be fly larva
