Hello all,
I recently got a beta fish about a week ago now. When I first got him I originally let my tank cycle for a couple weeks (or so I thought as my parameters looked normal). I'm not sure if when I added my fish I accidentally disrupted the cycle but my ammonia levels did spike up a day or so after adding him. I have been doing frequent (almost daily) water changes and the spike has gone down from 2ppm to now 0.5 and I'm hoping with another water change tomorrow I can get it down to almost around .25 or 0.
my nitrite and nitrate currently are 0 also
My temp is 78-80 and ph 7 and I have a 5 gallon with a filter and heater
I have been adding sea chem prime with the water changes to help detoxify the ammonia
My fish seems to be totally normal though he's pretty active been glass surfing a bit but Im pretty sure he's adjusting to his new environment and spends lots of time playing in the plant and chilling on his Betta leaf and in his little cave.
my only concern is he won't eat. It doesn't look like it's a sickness related eating thing. Like he looks totally fine it honestly looks like he just doesn't understand how to.I had a previous Betta who unfortunately passed recently and a couple months later I decided to get my new one. With my old guy dragon as soon as I got him he came to where the feeding lid is and ate. my new guy doesn't seem to get how it works.
I usually let the food stay in to wait and see if they'll eat but due to my ammonia I don't want to add an extra source so I wait a couple min for him and then pull out the food as he doesn't look like he understands that it's food time.
Any suggestion I'm starting to get concerned because I haven't been able to get him to eat in a week now and tried multiple food items aswell??
