Wow, those are some big fishes, and I think you should get them to a bigger home, and I hope you can find a way to get the water to be clear, because cloudy water leads to too much ammonia in the water. I had that problem once, but if you try cleaning the filter more often, put in live plants, and you should be fine.

I was once given some advice from a pet store owner to soak the flakes in a container for a few minutes so that they sink. Or get a pinch of the flakes in your fingers and run your fingers through the water swishing them a bit so that the flakes submerge. This was to make sure that the fishies didn't gulp down too much air while they ate, making it harder to digest and putting stress on them. I don't know if it helps or not. I've been doing it ever since and they seem happy enough. Yours do as well, feeding them on the surface. So if anyone has any input on this, please let me know your thoughts.
