Well, researching for lights for my tank I came across led based lights.

Most setups i have seen online have pure white ultra bright leds in them. Obvious advantages are long life for the bulbs so no spectrum shifting, low power consumption and almost no heat.

Any body ever used these?

Do they provide light in the right spectrum for a heavily planted tank?

If it is workable then I might try to make my own diy setup:). I calculate about $25 worth of material for my 65 gallon.

well ive never had LED lights, but i have had a very heavily planted tank. while the LED lights are pretty cool looking, and a pretty cool concept with the energy and money savings, im pretty sure they dont put out the full spectrum 6700k needed for a planted tank. the 6700k daylight lamps may look pure white when looking at it, but the light that comes out of them is actually quite orange.

if i was to do an LED setup, it would be for like mood lighting, for when i have a lady friend over, or a small party. lol.*w3
