Hello everyone - I have just joined and am setting up a 200 gallon freshwater tank. I am super excited - it's my mom's old tank that's been in storage. If anyone has some good tips on careful cleaning for older tanks - I would appreciate it! I look forward to getting to know you guys & gals!

Also - I work in specialty lighting distribution. If anyone here needs lamps for their tanks - I can offer great pricing on the bulbs you need! MH for Corals all the way to specialty fluorescents.

Not sure If I am allowed to post my company's URL here - so contact me if interested or need any help.

Many thanks in advance for the advice on cleaning old tanks! =)

Welcome and hope you enjoy it here.

I would use 1 part vinegar to 19 parts water to scrub the tank and plan on a new heater and filter and new substrate for sure. Before using the tank rinse, rinse, rinse with water and let it sit in sunlight for a day if possible.

Others may have methods that would be better for Salt tanks but this is my favorite for Fresh tanks that have not had a disease issue.

Thanks for joining us. Hope you enjoy it here.
