Does anyone know a good store, even online, doesnt matter, where I can get a good selection and many unique colors of aquarium sand???

So far I have looked at LiveAquaria.com but they didnt have many colors and AquariumSands.com which had a lot of colors and were cheap and very friendly too but didnt have the right size. I was pretty sad actually cause they have awesome prices $21.95 or $22.00 for 25 lbs shipped, (I think??) with free shipping and 0.0% tax on top of it.

I just dont want to buy that rip off tahitian moon sand for $45 a bag shipped

Thanks

Hi rockstar. I am new here myself but fairly experienced.
Aquarium gravel is way too heavy to buy it on line. By the time you pay for shipping, it costs an arm and a leg. It is one of the few things where I always favor local suppliers. I seldom buy the colored stuff so I get to go to the home improvement center to get my substrate and can use things like fine gravel, pool filter sand or sandbox sand to fill the bottom of my tanks.

It does depend on the type of fish you intend to keep in your tank as to the type of substrate and since I am dealing with bettas, I will give you the heads up that if you plan on a betta, then sand is totally inappropriate. They eat it and it kills them.

For some reason the stuff resembles the pellets that they are used to stuffing their tummies with and they think it is food and while they are normally very intelligent, they will eat sand until they are stuffed with it.

If you plan on other types of fish, then please just disregard the above advice but I felt that a possible problem could be averted if you were planning on a betta.

Welcome and I am happy to have you here. Please enjoy yourself here.
