I´m new here (more a botanist really, Canada, near NY state with my own excavated fish lakes). Interested in aquaculture. Have a question. Been trapping freshwater fish in coastal Brazil, Bahia State area, and locals call this unknown bottom fish Moreia, but the search problem is that this is a common family surname (for eel) in Brazil. To me it is not an eel unless it is a very tiny species. This one´s coloration mimics the bottom and it spreads pelvic fins and sits on the bottom most of the time. It is about 7 cm max length and behind the gills has a bright blue patch occasionally (like peacock blue, irridescent). Not all specimens have this. Anybody any idea what the genus might be? I´m not getting anywhere with a net search of the term moreia. Anbody can reply here or at [email protected]
