I bought aquarium sand at a pet store which I started to clean last night. I poured the sand into pail (bought specifically for fish keeping, no chemicals ever used in it) and added water, swished the sand around, dumped the water, added more etc. This went on for a few hours. The water is not 100 percent clear yet, slight discoloration.

My questions are..

If I add the sand now to the aquarium, fill with water and let it sit for a few days will the discoloration or particles settle?

I have an old filter which is crappy but thought about using at the moment on the new tank to help clear up any possible cloudiness. Once clear change it to my new aqua clear filter

Should I keep rinsing the sand more or any other tips?

Thanks for your help! :)

try pouring the sand in, and filling the tank with water. let it cycle for about two days to a week - and you should be good.

if i were you, i'd use both your old, and new filter to filtrate the water for any non-visible debris.
