I was planning on getting a pleco for my new tank and I narrowed the choices down to 2 species, The Clown (Ringlet) pleco, and the Butterfly pleco. Anyway, I would like your opinion on which is better based on:
  • algae consumption
  • compatibility with a 29 gallon tank
  • Sociality (will I actually see it not in hiding in the day)
please feel free to post your opinion and whatever advice or information you'd like.

I don't know about the algae consumption or the social aspects of either, but the Butterfly can get up to 7 inches long and is not recommended for tanks under 55 gallons. Clowns only get about 3 inches. I couldn't find a clown locally so I put a rubber lipped pleco in my 26 gallon tank. They are suppose to get up to 5 inches.

Oh, well I guess i'll just go with the Clown pleco. There are three Petland Discounts near my area, all of which sell clown plecos (well two of them do anyway, the third says they sell them but never have them in stock).
