Sorry to say the tank isn't cycled. Add media from old tank. The algae wafer will not cycle a tank. add any deco and whatever you can from the old tank but if it's been a while and things dried out it won't work. If you have a fish store or a friend, nearby ask if you can have some media from them. You will need to feed 1 wafer each at opposite ends. feed only every 2 days. Keep check on ammonia and nitrites as both fish are major waste producers. Get some Prime and just use tap water unless the PH is real high. I've kept plenty of plecos and never used RO water.

I've kept many pleco in tap with ph of 7.6. Ro buddy really isn't needed. Check your ph you can always mix itProblem with the RO/DI you need to be adding minerals back to the water and can get expensive. I've raised 100's of plecos in dechlorinated tap water with no problems

You should not clean your filter so much, Just the sponge leave the rest alone because your killing beneficial bacteria that a cycled tank needs.
