Amazon Sword micro aquarium

Just the sword by itself right now. I'd like to have a snail or a shrimp in this, but I think the temperature would fluctuate too much in the direct sun. The plant seems to like it, though!

Did you know it only costs $35 a year to keep a fish?

Annual Cost of Pets (http://dailyinfographic.com/annual-cost-of-pets-infographic)

LOL...

I don't know how they came up with that number. But it got me thinking, what do you REALLY spend per...

Betta Box! Aqueon8 with 3d background

I recently started this new tank for my betta. He has been in a temporary 2G tank for a while - this new tank will be his permanent home. It is an Aqueon 8, which has about 6 gallons of space in the...

Re: Are these worms anything to be concerned about?

Update - about a week after I posted this video, I started finding little gnat-like flies trapped inside my aquarium in the space under the lid. They were pretty slow and clumsy so I just squished...

Re: Marimo Moss Ball

I think they need a decent amount of light, and rinse/vac the debris from them occasionally. I had one in a dimly lit Betta tank, which died after about 5 months.

Re: Are these worms anything to be concerned about?

vreugy here's a good hi-res image of a bloodworm, if you can stomach it ;-)

http://www.raingarden.us/bloodworm%203.jpg

I agree the red worms in my tank appear more flattened out, but they're...

Re: Are these worms anything to be concerned about?

Yes, it is a live-planted tank. It seems like I feed pretty minimally - I give the fish an amount they can finish in a few minutes, once per day. I usually do one no-food day a week. At any rate, my...

Are these worms anything to be concerned about?

I'm pretty sure the red ones are bloodworms, but if anything I'm confused about where they came from, since I've never fed my fish live bloodworms...

There are also some smaller little thin...

Re: co2 and PH low

That chart is very useful, thanks for posting it. So you are turning on the lights at the point where the CO2 would start to be too high, so that the photosynthesis counteracts the increased CO2 by...

Re: Help! Worried about betta

My betta got some really bad tears in his fins a few months ago, possibly due to being in an aquarium that was too small (and I think he was squeezing himself between the glass and the heater /...

Re: Mystery Snail not moving for a few days?

Thanks for the reply. I usually feed them an algae wafer ever 3 days or so, plus they eat algae from the glass (I only clean the front), and they also eat dead leaves from my plants. The non-moving...

Mystery Snail not moving for a few days?

I have two adult mystery snails in my tank. They laid eggs about 3 weeks ago, and since then, they both became rather inactive. One of them is moving around and eating, but much less than usual. The...

Re: Stocking a small tank! Please help!!!

Good point, my Amano escaped through only a small 1/2" gap, and I found him on the other side of the room!

Re: Canister Filter Media

Gotcha. I'm considering using Purigen on a planned new tank. Maybe I will have like 125% of the needed amount, so I can always have some of it being rotated through a cleaning cycle.

Re: mystery snails

@DarkestCloud good point, I should clarify that I caught the snail in the act of eating a dead shrimp, and then I took the shrimp out. I don't rely on the snails for dead animal clean up; I'm just...

Re: Canister Filter Media

@L.West why not just regenerate 1/2 or 1/4 of the Purigen at a time, on a rotating basis?

Re: Vacation feeder without copper? Options?

I'd err more on the side of under feeding them. Fish can get by just fine on less than the normal amount of food.

Re: mystery snails

Mine eat anything that isn't nailed down. I've seen one eating a dead shrimp! They are voracious algae eaters, but they don't harm even delicate plants. I had a 2G tank that was covered in hair...

Re: Bar-top Vase Aquarium Build

What causes one fish to have a larger bioload than another? Is it the body size, metabolism, amount of food they eat...? Can two fish of the same body size have different bio load?

Re: Bar-top Vase Aquarium Build

I'm a little uncertain about space needs too, so all of these fish are semi-temporary in this aquarium for now. I have no place else to put them while I shuffle some other fish and aquariums around....

Re: Bar-top Vase Aquarium Build

I have added some critters to the tank! I'm going to leave it alone for a while now, so everything can settle in and the plants can grow. All of the animals seem healthy and active, and the plants...

Re: How many hours should I run Co2 a day

Semi related question: since plants generate CO2 at night, if you run CO2 injection would it be beneficial to have an airstone that turns on only at night? For the purpose of scrubbing excess CO2 out...

Re: Crazy idea

This sounds awesome. When I was a kid I always wanted to have a giant fish tank that was big enough to swim around in with googles and a snorkel!
