Question about meds

I have a tank that is being covered in the "red slime algae" I know it isn't an algae and I know the type of medication to use to reduce it, my question is, I have a frogspawn and hammer corals in the tank, will the meds hurt them at all?, I also have two clowns in the tank? if you need more info please let me know I know im being vague.

Re: Question about meds

You've been through this before.https://www.aquariumforum.com/f67/hel...ghlight=cyanno
Lights out is one approach and Ultralife Red Slime Remover is another.
Have you tested for Phosphates lately, and how are you controlling them?

Re: Question about meds

Read your labels on the fish food, and your coral food, if your using any. Look for a form of Silicate, as this is bad and Cyano loves it.
Also, if your using tap water it will make it harder for you to control it without a sump. Lighting periods make it grow intensely also, so if your lights are on more than 12 hours, I'd reduce those also. CB states the lights out period works, and I agree with him. The Slime Remover he suggests will also work, but I'd make sure my skimmer is working in top notch shape as that product uses alot of O2.

Re: Question about meds

Ok I read the link you posted. Will a lights out work in my case. Will that harm my corals? The lights are on a 8 hr cycle and I use distilled water for top offs and premixed for water changes

Re: Question about meds

Brown stuff would have been diatoms that would have gone away on their own over a couple of weeks.
You've been given info on cyanno and I'll bet that's where you are at!

Re: Question about meds

Do you run a skimmer? If you don't I'd not suggest running the lights out. If you do run a skimmer, the lights out method does work, and does not harm corals.

Re: Question about meds

all info given before in previous thread was addressed to cyanno.Maybe then you had diatoms, but that doesn't change the info given since it was directed towards cyanno!
