Re: Bumblebee catfish question

If you are speaking of the Pseudomystus siamensis / Asian Bumblebee Catfish,
no they do not school.
They are very territorial bottom-dwellers, especially with their own.

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

Sorry I put the wrong thing. I mean the south american bumblebee catfish, I always call it the siamese bumblebee catfish for some reason.

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

Catfish in general do not school due to their predatory nature.

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

Corys don't "school" in the same fashion as fish,
but shoal together as a security / comfort measure.
This is why it's recommended they are being kept in multiples of 4 or more.

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

Well thanks, do you think it's ok that I keep my 3 south american together?

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

The South American bumblebee catfish has a peaceful temperament can work well in a community tank, But small fish and fry could be targeted in their hunt for food.

Being nocturnal, they hunt after lights out when most other tank mates are at rest.

Be sure to provide hiding places for them for the daylight hours.

Not knowing the set up of your tank, I cannot give advice on keeping them together.

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

Right now I have the 3 in a 38 gallon bare bottom. I do have a potted plant in there and a sunken ship wreck replica that they are always in.

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

Those are pretty. Where did you get them? Why is it that all the fish I think are the most beautiful are all bottom dwellers? I'm going to need a 10ftx10ft/1 foot deep tank to house everything I want now...

Re: Bumblebee catfish question

I got them on vacation in Florida, but they are not that hard to find them. If you have a LFS then ask them to order them for you, petco + petsmart won't order anything for you, I've tried.

I have no problems getting Petco to order things for me (the guy there is awesome, plus one of the giant pet stores/hotels/what-ever closed down, and one of my friends started working there, too ), the problem I have with Petco is they order it, but their suppliers don't deliver... I had them ordering Red Cherries for a month before I just bought them on AquaBid, which Murphy's law stated as soon as I bid on some, they got their shipment in... lol
