albino pleco breeding help

I discovered, this weekend, that my 55g temp was 82. Much to warm for albino's. I slowly dropped it to 78. Now, all three are so active. The male and one female seem to be hanging out together. Does this mean they may breed? The male has a lovely red spot just behind his head.

Also, how do you clean the sand close to the breeding cave? I know it should be kept pristine, but if I use the vacuum, won't that disturb him while he is on the nest? How many tubes for him to pick from?

I can remove the male bettaautolinker.com autolinking image, but what about the 7 Pristella's? Will they go after the babies.

So many questions......

Have a blessed day

Re: albino pleco breeding help

They should start breeding when the female gets fat with eggs. You should have several caves for them to choose from and he will pick out the one he likes the best. If you plan on trying to raise all the fry, its best to put them in a tank of their own. Best temp for them is around 75 to 77.

SUCCESS IS MEASURED BY YEARS, NOT MONTHS!!!
220 Tank build + 62 other tanks.

Re: albino pleco breeding help

Thanks Susan. It's kind of hard to determine if a female is "fat" or not, but I will keep a close watch. The male is checking out one of the tubes right now. I only had pipe for two tubes.

Can I feed them up to make more willing to breed. Just for grins and chuckles, I put 4-5 cory pellets in the tank. The pleco's went nuts after them. Think I have a small green squash left. Will see if they want it. They love peas. Think I will order some sea weed flakes. Or do I need to look for something with more algae in it.

So many questions

Have a blessed day
