Is this a Jack Dempsey?

I went to the LFS to buy a jack but they were in an assorted chichlid tank. The young jacks I have seen all look different but this one does have those bright spots. I have wanted a jack for a long time but love this fish either way. If it is a jack could anyone tell me the sex i know the quality is bad.
Sorry for the quality.[IMG][/IMG]

Re: Is this a Jack Dempsey?

It may be a Jack, hard to say whe they are young. Don't mix it with smaller fish, it will eat them.

Re: Is this a Jack Dempsey?

This is a Dempsey yes. I have one that about 5-6 inches now and he looked like that when he was small.

Re: Is this a Jack Dempsey?

This definitely looks like a flowerhorn. With blue accents surrounding black spots in the center body line. Look for its eyes to become red when it acclimatizes to your tank.

210 Gallon MonsterFish tank.
20 Gallon: 2 Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, Barracuda, FW Eel.

Re: Is this a Jack Dempsey?

It's a jack for sure. I've raised a few up from juveniles and the bands and marking match up..the body shape, greyish bands&color specks all along body and tail are consistent with jack dempsys..as they mature they will get way more color and are pretty aggressive, but if kept with the right fish it can work (other jacks, oscars, Africans)..the earlier in life u introduce new tank mates the better.

Re: Is this a Jack Dempsey?

If it is a male, the colors will be even brighter whereas the femals generally do not get as bright as the males. It does look like a Jack dempsie to me.

Any fish that will fit into another fishes mouth ................................ WILL

Re: Is this a Jack Dempsey?

I know this is late but it looks like a baby Texas Cichlid. I've raised several from babies. They're also known as Pearl Cichlids. They look very similar to the green terror, and jack dempsey.
