Make sure your lighting is bright (T-5, LED, Halide)
make sure tank is cycled so no big spikes in your water perimeter wont kill anything.
get a protein skimmer
Grab alot of live rock. usually its a pound of live rock per gallon.
* remember its all about your tank's personality. you have to decide now on what you want to do with it and stick with it because it will cost you alot more to change your mind down the road. For example, If you want to make it a reef tank, you will buy different equipment then if you were to have a FOWLR.
RO water is a must! super clean water is needed. No TDS should be found in the water you will use for water changes.
And Finally, just read the threads on this forum and you will learn alot :fish5:
stick with corals you want to grow..for example..you have soft corals, sps. lps, and such..you can get away with certian corals together..but in general sps like very clean water as zoanthids like it a little dirtier..sps..like alk, cal, and mag to be constant..zoa's dont care..i tried to do both in the same tank and it didnt go very well..one or the two always suffered..to clean zoa's suffered..to dirty..sps suffered..so keep that in mind when choosing corals..your tank will thank you down the road..also certian coral can do chemical warfare on other corals..chalices and leather corals come to mind here..good luck and show us your tank..lol.. oh and i would not even consider trying to run a reef tank without a protien skimmer unless its a nano..and then frequent water changes are a must.
