ten gallon light wanted

I have a ten gallon which the light just went out on, i think the length of the flourescent was eighteen inches, i'll have to double check though. I also need a hood and light for a twenty gallon long breeder tank, i can't seem to find one available. I need them to be reasonably priced, the lights and hood set ups out here start at about 32.00 and I can't shell out that kind of cash.

It's abnormal to be normal.

I'm sorry, my Karma just ran over your Dogma.

Re: ten gallon light wanted

A quick and cheap way to go is to buy a clamp on goose neck light fixture from about $5 at Walmart and put a compact fluorescent daylight balance bulb in it. You can use two on the 20 gallon if that looks good to you. I have a sixty rectangular tank lit by two clamp on goose neck lights and even that looks good as well as a 35. Anyway the key is to use compact fluorescent bulbs and not tungsten bulbs which just make too much heat.

I should have mentioned that I use a glass cover on all my tanks and the lights are above that. It is not necessary to use a glass cover with the goose neck clamp ons but it will discourage jumpers and control evaporation somewhat.

ah, thanks. I have a glass cover for most of my tanks, the ten gallon is the only one that does not. but i can easily remedy that situation.

Re: ten gallon light wanted

Looking at the date on the post I'm likely too late but Walmart has an "under-the-counter" light strip(18"fluorescent) which I use two of on each of my tens.
They cost $8 and Loew's has a 18" GE bulb which has the name "Daylight F-15" on it and it's rated at 6500K and cost $7.73 here.
I get a glass shop to cut me a rectangle piece one inch short on each end for my covers and just put the light on top of that. I also remove the
clear plastic light diffuser which goes over the bulb and get a mirror glass cut to 7"x17" and just set it on top of both lights to direct the light down
and keep it from distracting me but I used Aluminum foil before I got the mirror glass cut. Check the dimentions first but a fixture for a 29 fits the
20 long. You might not be that lucky but my favorite LFS is a "mom and pop" which happens to buy used equipment...so...but yard sales are good
also for used aquarium parts like lights for the 20 long. OOPs you said "breeder" so might not fit.

Chaz, please notice the dates on these posts. If you have things for sale, make your own thread please.

If i drew it it'd look like a monkey eating a horsradish on the moon or something
