Basically I have just lost all fish due to extended heat spell, and would like restocking for a colorful, would love a planted (even though I never manage to retain live plants for more than a month) active while shifted to a lower maintenance 55G. Temperatures which will always hit 30c in summer.
For a tank that big, you could go for an Amazon River biotope. That would be a school of angelfish, a plecostimus or two, some apple snails/golden mystery snails, Amazon swords, vals, and lots of driftwood, leaves, gravel and rocks. Look up Amazon Biotope online for other specifics. FYI, biotope = all plants and fish from the same river/lake/region.
Its an option, although ain't sure I can bring PH and hardness down enough for most Amazon bio's, I can certainly get close in parameters to a clear-water stream. All that said this being an option, I don't think I would have the color I am after. Apart the fact as I said in my original post, id like this to be an easy to maintain tank, I cannot dedicate time for weekly water changes, which I guess that also drops discus off the list, further limiting color.
Hello, ec8. I came here because I saw the link in your other thread. Sorry to hear that you lost all that stock to a heatwave.
I noticed it's been two months since the last response, so if you're still checking this thread, do you have any updates to share?
