Lowering my pH too far?

Its a very real concern for me, I bought a cheap test from walmart(I'm poor, ill get better eventually but my fish are alive and happy so I'm not worried) and it was 6-8, well my water was as low as it reads, I want to change to ecocomplete gravel and it lowers pH...am I in danger of making my tank toxic? If so I'll get floramax and that doesn't lower it apparently...

Test strips are highly inaccurate. Also the Eco will not lower it that much. I used to have it an mine was lowered maybe .5

If i drew it it'd look like a monkey eating a horsradish on the moon or something

Re: Lowering my pH too far?

Any time you change conditions in your tank you can drip acclimate the fish back into it. Itll never hurt to drip acclimate.

70 gallon- Betta Enisae pair, betta Ocellata pair, female Betta Pugnax

29 Gallon- Betta Pallifina and Betta Patoti

20 Gallon- Betta Gladiator

5 Gallon- Betta Channoides

And numerous Betta Splendens

Coming soon: Betta Macrostoma :D

Re: Lowering my pH too far?

Do you have a local fish store? Even the big box stores will test your water. They may charge you a dollar. Call and ask.

Are you using City Water? Get online, search for your cities water parameters. By law they have to make it available to the public (quarterly I believe), it will include PH. Ask your parents to save the pamphlet from the city when it's mailed to the house.

Man, you guys make this to hard.......
Just put lids on your tank if your PH goes to low, that will trap the gassess and raise the PH.
Plain and simple........

Re: Lowering my pH too far?

Crap, I actually got it mixed up again. Ya gotta aerate the tank with low PH and put a lid on the tank for high PH, my bad.
Apologies to all. I always get the 2 mixed up when Im putting them on paper.
