pH testing

I use Instant ocean test kits. When i test the pH of my tap water, it is high, well over 8.4. After I add saltautolinker.com autolinking image and let it sit a few days or weeks, it drops to below 7.8. Anyone know why? I suspect the cause is 1 of 2 things, but I don't want to spoil your thought processes.

PS. Please don't preach to me about tap water versus RO/DI. I know the differences. Maybe I'm lucky in my city, but my reef tank looks outstanding. Maybe someday I will upgrade, but there's nothing broke now and I'm not fixing it until it is.

As always, thank you!

Re: pH testing

Your ALK is low
Your in cold weather and your house is closed up, keeping excess CO2 in the surrounding area.
Inadequate areation

Re: pH testing

Same things I stated above. Aerate your tank more, this usually solves the problem, and check your Alkalinity, it needs to remain between 8-12dKH.
