When the tentacles are falling apart, the animal is dying. I would recommend removing it as it will turn rapidly to ammonia after it disintegrates. It is difficult to say why without a lot more information. Generally, your water must be as near perfect as possible. Your readings for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate should all be 0. If it's a bubble tentacle anemone (BTA) your tank should have been that way for at least 6 months before you added the creature. For any other Anemone, a year is recommended. These creatures love light so you should have strong T5 or MH lighting.

If all those conditions have not been met, you may be able to figure what you did wrong.

i let my tank sit for a good 7 months before i put anything in it... other than life rock ofcorse to help it cycle... and ive had my anemone for a/b a month before it went down hill... i think its the light issue... b/c i got an OUTRAGOUS power bill last month and ive been trying to cut back by only turning the lights on everyother day... darn....

also i woke up this mornin and my water was SUPER cloudy... is that the amonia overload??

Yes light can do it (or I should say the lack of it). I'm switching from MH to T5's to try to cut mine back. My electric co-op will be disappointed. Right now I'm pulling down 1,000w just in lighting on my reef. I have to do something and a smaller tank isn't on my option list.

Sorry that you had to learn the hard way. Standard fluorescent lighting doesn't work. I even recommend that folks stay away from Power Compacts (PC). They don't generate enough light for most applications, loose PAR too quickly, and often cause algae blooms as their spectrum shifts. Think T5 HO and it's hard to go wrong.
