hello. we used to believe that 5 killiefish in our 125 gal saltwater were mummichogs, but we are now reconsidering. they are a golden-brown color with bright, neon-turquoise flecks . they have been living quite well in our tank. we originally caught them while fishing for shrimp in John J. Burns Park. we have been catching them in burns park since before i was born. we have already learned how to sex them: female appear like giant mollies in shape and have a "pregnant" look to them. males look like standard minnows and get bigger and have alot more neon flecks. are these mummichogs?

I just looked up Mummichogs, and found them to be killifish. Here is one picture, does it look like them?

The appear to have different colorations. I imagine by the locale that they are collected. They are pretty little fish.

I haven't thought of mummichogs in years. We used to use them as bait when fishing for Chain Pickerel when I was a kid. Pretty little fish. Very durable.

ours look like mummichogs, except the fact that ours has no stripes, just glitter. when we found out mummichogs have faint stripes is what made us reconsider.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten this lovely website! I moved to a different county back in May 2011 and started high school in a totally different school district. So I'm still adjusting and studying hard, and don't presently have any aquariums. But once I do, I'll be right back on this forum!
