This has been bothering me....how do you tell the difference between a male fish and a female fish? I've heard that one is darker and one is larger but don't remember which is which. And if you only have one how do you tell?

It all depends on the species of the fish. Is there a specific fish you are asking about?

I was hoping there was a general rule but i guess now I don't feel so bad for not knowing
![]() For now I was mostly curious about personifer, foxface and clownfish. We've only put a deposit down on our tank so the only fish i have a good picture of is the foxface. |

Well I know clowns are what you say both sexes. There is only one queen ( the biggest) in the colony and if the queen perishes then the next male down the line will become the next queen female. So if you want to purchase a mating pair always know that the bigger one is the female and the smaller one is the male. As for the foxface, I am not sure about those but I'm be glad to learn along with you if someone answers your question about that one.
