I know that It is practically impossible to distinguish male from female externally. When you want to select breeding pairs, it creates an aquarium six or eight new Scalar. As they develop, they form couples. Besides the challenge in distinguishing the sexes, the breeding of these fish requires yet another difficulty, not all fish of the opposite sex are willing to mate. They need to feel "attracted" to each other.
When couples form, the two members remain together in a corner of the aquarium. Are placed facing each other and perform a little dance back and forth, with the fins open.is just an opinion of mine, If you buy one or two will see... |

I think the first is female and the second is male. I've had Scalars and in my opinion is a couple.

Susan, that theory is very unproven, its along the same theory of the body lines intersecting the tail at certain points with discus, its a "non evasive" way to guess sex them.
Unless their vents are hanging out I dont bother with trying to sex them anymore. too many misclassifications. They are still young yet, their vents are well retracted to give an honest gender. |
