Default SeaChem Prime water conditioner

heard its good to over dose water container since it acts as a stress coat as well as a conditioner.
But I heard you SHOULDNT overdose seachem prime, and a bottle should last a long time... I have the smallest bottle, and its half empty. I had it for 2 weeks. I had to perform several water changes due to med requirements. So I have been using it for the water changes. Whenever my amonia was too high id put in maybe 6-8 drops? (its a 20 gallon tank)

Default Re: SeaChem Prime water conditioner

Thank you for your questions, xoenrt209, and also for using Prime. At the recommended dose (5mL per 50 gallons of water), Prime will stimulate the fish to make their own slime coats, therefore, overdosing Prime simply for this purpose is not recommended. All water conditioners, including Prime, are reducing agents, so frequent or regular overdosing is not something that we typically recommend. The only time that we would recommend overdosing Prime is in the event of an emergency nitrite spike, at which point it is safe to use up to 5 times the recommended dose. To detoxify ammonia in your 20-gallon, I would recommend using 1-2 drops of Prime per gallon of water. We hope this information helps!
