Default What do you think ?

I have up and running a 180 saltwater fish and live rock, with minimum coral, tank. I am currently using a FX5 filter and have another FX5 that I am going to start today. In the second filter I was thinking about only using bio balls for purposes of collecting the larger materials in the water. There is also a protein skimmer running as well. What do you think. All info appreciated.

I hear a lot of people saying bio balls can produce a lot of nitrates so they need to be cleaned often. Have you thought of using some broken down live rock and using that instead?
