Default Question about equipment setup:

Hello everybody, second post here. I've been doing research for a while here and am trying to get some technical advice about equipment setup. Below you will see a copy and paste section of an email I sent to another hobbyist and I am just trying to get as much info on these ideas that go through my head as possible. Sorry about the lenghty nature but here goes (the tank size I'm contemplating goint with is either a 90 or 110):

Wondering if you wouldn't mind me picking your brain a little further:
I'm contemplating my equipment options for my setup and have come to some ideas. It seems like canister filters (Eheim 2217 is what I have in mind) work pretty darn well and I'm thinking I'd like to get one. Additionally I'd like to run a sump tank to increase my total gallonage, conceal my skimmer and heater, and possibly house feeder shrimp and/or feeder fish.

First, what are your thoughts on this type of setup?

Second, what are your thoughts of having a sectioned off portion of my sump tank to house feeders? And aside from a live sand substrate would I need any live rock or marine vegetation planted?

Third question I have is in regards to plumbing. I'm wondering if I would be better served to set up the cannister filter independent of the sump or if I should a) pump the water from the tank to the cannister filter then through the sump or b) pump the water into the sump then draw water from the sump into the cannister filter then back into the main tank?

Sorry for the lengthy email, but I appreciate your expertise. I will probably copy and paste this question into a thread.

Default Re: Question about equipment setup:

You don't need the filter. Let the live rock and skimmer do the work for you.
