I prefer the AquaClear hang on back filters due to their media chambers. I keep a new filter foam insert in my reef sump at all times so it is charged with beneficial bacteria and can be used at a moments notice. I can set my 10 or 20G QT tanks up in just a few minutes since I store the empty tank with all its equipment together in one place.
I also keep plenty of RO/DI on hand so can make up a batch of new saltwater in a hurry. I hang the filter, insert the foam while adding a new one to my sump, toss in a few pieces of PVC pipe or fittings for the fish to hide in, add a heater, small powerhead and appropriate light for the inhabitant and its up and running. Once I am done, I throw the used filter foam away so there is no chance of infecting anything in the future, disinfect everything let it dry and put it away for next time. |
