Default Yet another newbie

Hi everyone, I just got my first tank, a juwel vision 180 bow front.

I am cycling at the moment but want to start planning what fish to get and how many?

I want to get cherry and Golden barbs, so wonder what people would recommend as good companions.

Also once the tank is fully cycled how many fish would be suitable for my tank, I only plan to get fish up to 3".

Don't want to make any rookie mistakes.

Any advice is welcome

Mark

Juwel 180 bow front... is that a 180 gallon?

If yes, then you have a nice area for plenty of fish!

A 180 bow front has lots of room for fun and should be fairly hard to foul if you avoid overcrowding and overfeeding . Personally I would go with the widely available and attractive tetras from SA. There are all sizes and types available from neons to silver dollars and are fairly bullet proof. You can add a shoal of Angelfish for the stately look and a bunch of corydoras cats to clean up the inevitable overfeeding mishaps . Personaly I now go with artificial plants which are a lot easier to deal with but that's your call. Remember to have fun and take a lot of pictures. And change at least 25% of your water weekly. Buy a hose adapter so you can add temperature mixed water directly from the tap to the tank. Just pour in the Aquasafe or whatever you use hose carry from tap to tank. Assuming of course your water is not too bad , that's the way to go.

I vote for live plants, as I'm just getting started with them but love the natural look and the benifits with them soaking up all the toxins. as for fish, you have a lot of room for fish so have fun with it, I like angelfish personally, but you could have a nice variety of fish in there. Take lots of pictures as it comes along and post them!

I believe this is a 180L tank (approx 45g).
