I have a 47 gallon bowfront tank.
I currently have: 2 Golden Rams 2 Electric Blue Rams 2 Dalmation Mollies 5 Neon Tetras 2 Albino Cory Cats AQADVISOR is telling me my stock is filled to 51% and my filtration is 181% for the filter and tank. I don't think I want much more fish if any, but I was thinking about adding two more Albino Cory Cats because they like to be in groups of 4 I heard. Will they get to big for the tank if I have 4? Or will I be fine? I might get a couple more Rams. In my opinion they are the best looking freshwater fish and are very peaceful. |

I'd get 3-4 more Corys - they like 6+ (5 minimum.)
As for Rams... it's up to you, but they get territorial when spawning... you may loose the Neons.... Oh, I'd also add another 5 of those as well. They like 6+, and you're tank is big enough.

Albinos stay small, so you could certainly afford more. However, if you only want to get 4, none of them will know any different. I observe mine constanty and they stay together based on the size of the tank, IMO. Smaller tanks they have no choice, but get a larger one and they only group 2-3 together 99% of the time. I'm not a big believer in what all the books or net say. It assumes the fish is cognizant of all his own kind. Cories are too loose of a shoal for it to make sense to me.

Cory's could be a problem when the rams breed, they are pretty dumb and could get a nip or 2. Tetra will stay clear. I would get a couple more Cory to up the numbers. I would also look at a few more tetra, you could also look at another type of top/middle schooling fish like a raspora.....

It was probably just the first type of fish that came to his mind. When I think of top to mid level swimmers I think of white cloud mountain minnows because that is what I own and have experience with. He probably thought of those because he has owned them and has had experience with them.

They are a good community fish, look good, swim mid/top so won't crowd bottom and are quite small so dont create alot of waste. You could have 5 and it would look good but only put a very small increase in bio load on the BB......

I really like the look of guppys. Are they mid/top swimmers? If so how many do you reccomend at the minimum?

guppies can be kept alone, but they do prefer to be in groups. The general rule is minimally 1 male for every 2 females. Because they have long fins it is definitely possible that their fins will be nipped. They are top swimmers if I am not mistaken.

If you keep male and female guppies, be prepared for babies out the wazoo! They breed like no tomorrow. And yes, the are top swimmers but do also hang out in the middle.
