'status' update...
Hi, my name is bobby and currently been entertaining this wonderful hobby for about 2 months now.. originally i had a 36 bowfront aquarium with the fish i will list now, but I'm sure which is not something new had some typical overstocking problems? (especially when one of my black mollies gave birth to 30 babies in one night) i was so happy.. lol all in all i was working with about 30 fish (not including the babies) and my fish consisted of the following: 10 neon tetras 3 black mollies 2 gold mollies 3 sunset or sunburst platies 3 rainbow fish (not regular ones don't know the orig name but looks very much like a ornate rainbow..) 1 bala shark 1 albino rainbow shark 1 german blue balloon ram 4 glass cat fish 3 serpai tetras 1 columbian tetra those were the original.. THAN some died specifically- blue gourami , goldfish , and the 30 babies... was very sad and moving. BUT, at the same time those 2 (gourami and goldfish were added later and had signs of icy which i only treated when they died).. the reason i added my original stock is because the are the ones i still have with me. moving forward, after this experience, and treating for ich, i decided to kick the strips for testing and got liquid testing only to discovery ammonia was sky high. i was told it was from to much fish. neither here or there, i now have an ' upgraded tank ' i bought on craiglist.. its a 55 gallon long with some plants and a stand. i love it. there was one catch, it came with fish. lol i still have my 36 bow front, but am planning on returning it. what i did was put all the fish of his in there (ill list his soon) and some of mine. not much , specifically 2 serapes (i wanted to keep one) , the one columbian tetra (he's semi aggressive) and the 3 i kept was 3 rose line barbs. yep , they came with 60 bucks of fish! so my current stock again is the list i listed above minus 2 serapes and the columbian tetra just with 3 rose line barbs. some of the plants died but i added one I'm planning on posting a pic soon.. again i have mainly 2 months of experience but promise you i learned a lot. my question so i don't go on and on is my current stock too much?? heres the list again just incase: 10 neon tetras 3 black mollies 2 gold mollies 3 sunset or sunburst platies 3 rainbow fish (not regular ones don't know the orig name but looks very much like a ornate rainbow..) 1 bala shark 1 albino rainbow shark 1 german blue balloon ram 4 glass cat fish 3 roseline barbs 1 red velvet swordtail. lol and recently added. ill confirm my obsession soon... is 6 original siamese algae eaters, as my tank is only 6 days old and wa infested (from him with BBA) so i went to pacific aquarium in manhattan to buy these guys.. (there babies and already served there purpose!!!) lastly, in my opinion they/ it don't seem overstocked but just wanna be sure. i am new to this site and any feedback / advice/ help would be greatly appreciated. best. ps. planning to add more to learn on topics on substrate and plants.. (as I'm planning to put solid on top of my gravel as opposed to underneath..) just figured it would be best to start from the geco as this question been bothering me. |

Your bala shark will grow to a size to need that tank almost for it's self!... Darn pretty in the fish store (big box?) but not really practical for the typical fish keeper. Next up is your Ram.. he's one lonely lil guy and depending upon variety can request temps approaching mid 80's (GBR's) or 6-8 degrees lower (Bolivian)...To be blunt... sounds like a few impulse buys rather than an approach to setting up a planned tank. Yep, Balas get BIG and also need to be in groups. Best to re-home asap so the skeleton doesn't get stunted, resulting in internal organ explosion.
