Default over head filter placement

i have an aquaclear for 110 gallon tanks.

the tank is a 55 gallon cichlid set up.

Should the filter be placed in the middle or over to one side?

Which is more effective? The filter is clear so its not very noticeable against my black background.

thanks,

sean

My tank is a 75 gallon, but is the same length as your 55. I also have the same filter. I started with mine in the middle, but then i decided to move it to the back left corner so the filter comes down out of the way into the corner. I have a planted tank, so I didn't want it in the middle where more of my plants are and could get sucked in/moved due to the suction.
In the end I don't think it matters, just whatever looks best for you.
