If your gonna do other goldfish, then the goldfish you have now are probably feeder goldfish, those guys are quite hardy. As far as a betta in your tank with other goldfish, probably not a good idea. Gold fish are cold water fish, where as the Betta is a warm tropical fish, althought when you go to your lfs ( local fish store) or wally world, you see them sitting in a glass jar with nothing more than a fake plant, no heat or anything, but those ones are not the best breeds either, good breeds of bettas are so nice looking, beautiful fins with great coloration. (spelling) You can find some real nice Goldfish to go in your tank also.
Tropical Fish, Freshwater Fish for the Aquarium, Fish Information and Fish Pictures hope the link works. enjoy you new tank !!

Just to clarify, Carassius auratus auratus( goldfish) is one of the earliest aquarium species first recorded in 265-420 bc in the Jin Dynasty. Carassius auratus auratus prefer temps around 25c/77f and can live/breed/thrive in higher temps, such as those in a tropical tank usually around 78/80f. Although higher temps contain less oxygen goldfish can thrive in higher temps. Also goldfish are not anymore "dirty" then an oscar or a pirahna, overfeeding of goldfish and a high protein diet is why goldfish seem to be more wasteful then other fish species.Goldfish need a low protein high carbo diet.It has been argued that keeping goldfish in a higher temp range shortens their life span but no evidence to support that has been published to my knowledge. I apologize for posting off topic but the lack of true information seems to be the norm for goldfish.

Actually you can't, goldfish are colwater fish and bettas are tropical fish, in the end one of them will die.
