Hi, I typed a wrather long reply, wrong spot, but anyway sodium biphosphate will make water more acid, ph lower than 7. Sodium bicarbonate will make it more alkaline; 7-14 *all chemicals being disolved 1st in water, are introduced gradually via the filter. Allow circulation before attempting readings.

Just take a bucket and fill it with water and put in the additives. Test the ph prior and after. Test again after 24hrs.
