Well, folks -- I believe the water may be finally settling (at least for a brief spurt) and stabilizing, as it appears to be getting clearer and clearer almost by the hour...
BUT -- something I noticed, and meant to ask a long time ago...is it remotely possible for a tank and water to be TOO oxygenated? When I look at the water from the front of the glass, it is clear that between the splashings of the two filters I'm running plus the two bubble wands in back, there is a tremendous amount of aeration in this tank and it's so bubbly, it's making the water appear to be less-than-crystal clear, if you can follow me... Is this possible? Is there such a thing as "too much oxygen" for a tank? My goldies appear to be swimming and looking better since the water has apparently improved, but I can swear the oxygen created by all the filtration and air devices is causing a "bubbly bloom" of sorts, that's making the water appear to look a bit whispy... Does this make sense? ![]()

If your getting your aeration threw agitating / diffusing the water its completely fine. (which is what you are doing). Any excess O2 or other gases are off gassed, and gas saturation levels are kept near 100%, when you agitate the water.
It is possible to get O2 levels that are to high to culture fish in, but you have to be using pure O2, and if I remember correctly I think a professor once told me you need around 160-180% saturation of oxygen in water before you begin to experience any negative side effects on the fish. Also excess nitrogen gas can cause Gas Bubble Disease, but I don't think you'll ever run into that problem unless your working in aquaculture, or are a biologist monitoring the effects of dam spillways :P . http://aquanic.org/management%20prac...terquality.pdf |

LOL Good question, but relax a little. Don't look for problems. It sounds fine. The only time I would wonder about too much oxygen would be if you had real plants. It doesn't really matter if the water looks a little less then perfect, as long as the water is perfect for the fish. Most fish (with the possible exception of ones with very long fine tails) love the currents created by good aeration and enjoy playing in it.

Thanks Everyone!
I am pleased to report that the water has DEFINITELY cleared, and appears to be continuing to do so each day/time I check! Thank you everyone for your tips and insight; I think adding the AquaClear 110 DEFINITELY helped. As for the oxygenated water -- I understand now that all this aeration and O2 is good for the goldies, but what about the fact that it seems as though all this circulation appears to be causing like a "bubble bloom" that's a bit whispy in the water, thus stopping it from being so clear it's transparent?
