Default My Gold Fish

i currently own one large fancy goldfish. I also have two small orange fish. here are my questions:

1. what breed is my large fish? i know he is some type of fancy goldfish. his name is monroe II.

2. for a 29 gal tank, will he outgrow it? he is about 6 inches from head to end of tail.

3. he is sluggish when i am away from the tank, likes to stay at the water surface but is very active when i come over to the tank. he is a very aggressive eater and looks alert of his home.

4. he is a pet$mart fish. from my knowledge, he isn't a very high quality fish. he is the lone survivor of the four large fancies i have owned. i am suspicious about his quality.

5. there is a show down in chicago in the next few months and he was going to represent me. do you think he would win any awards? the only downfall is the single anal fin which was part of his genetics.

here is a video of him

You seem to get a lot of new fish and then lose them...why is that?

Anyway,

1 - An Oranda.
2 - I think a 29 gallon tank should be fine as regards size.
3 - This isn't a question...but he probably associates people with food so he gets excited. I can't say why he'd be sluggish but it might be whatever killed your other fish.
4 - This isn't a question either.
5 - I think it's a bad idea to try and enter a fish you buy at P*tsm*rt at a show. It defies the whole purpose of having shows in my opinion. I'm not a big Oranda person so I couldn't tell you how he measures up to the ideal standard but I would think that having a single anal fin would be a serious flaw.

Funny thing, with regard to the last member's post about owning a PetSmart fish...

All four of our fantails -- an all-orange variant, a Red Cap Oranda, a chocolate/gold fantail and a Calico -- were purchased at a local PetSmart, and they have all thus far thrived and are growing and doing very well; as surprising as that may sound, they also exhibit show-fish-like characteristics, with gorgeous, flowing forked veil tails and exceptionally clean and well-defined scales...they really are stunning, and I always joke with my wife that these goldfish would be of interest to a hardcore fancytail enthusiast, or even viable to enter in a show/contest...

Do give on showing Goldfish it is a load of fun
but if he has a single anal fin he will not meet the breed standard for GSA

I, too, have a show-worthy Red Cap Oranda, named "Sunshine," who is white body/red cap...gorgeous fish...

Kathy and Steve Hopkins @ Raingarden? They raises some very good fish. They are best known for their Tosikin, Jikin. and Wakin but has very good livestock.

You have a beautiful Oranda there. He/she may not be show quality, but it is still a beautiful goldie.
Do you have any other fish in the 29 gallon with it?
