Default Canister Filter Recommendations

I'm looking to upgrade my filters to canisters on my 30 and 55g tanks. I've been looking at the Fluval 305, Marineland C-220, Marineland Magnum 350 and Eheims(a little pricey) among others. They all seem to have their pros and cons. I'm hoping to get advice/recommendations from actual users, rather than the info from the company sites. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Skitp

I had 2 Magnum 350s. one came with a tank another I got off the local craigslist so they were both used. They worked good, but were a little noisey. No sure how old they were since I did not purchase them. I have since switched to Rena XP2 (used got them from this site actually) for canister filters and like them more than I liked the Magnums. Easier maintenance and silent operation. I have 2 of the XP2 each filters for a 55g tank

I'm so happy to read squirrelcrusher's input about liking his Rena xp2, because I just bought an xp3 (but haven't put it to the live fish test yet). You know how it is .... you research the heck out of something, make a move and buy it, and then sit around wondering "Did I make a mistake?" and "Am I the only one who thought this was a good idea?" Stuff like that. Thanks, squirrelcrusher.

p.s. to Squirrelcrusher: My otherwise gentle female Vizsla-Greyhound rescue ("Phoenix Rising") would like you based on screen name alone. She caught and ate an entire squirrel in our back yard recently, in less than 5 minutes. The whole thing, including the tail! She's a fast lady, that one.
