So i live next to the fish.com outlet store and since i was just given a blue crayfish im rushing around to get a 10g set up as a temporary home for him. I was looking around checking prices of 5-15g filters and fish.com store, not online, had the best prices. I picked up 2 filters one for 4.99 and one for 14.95. heres how they stack up
Aquatic Edge HOB Bio-Clear Power Filter 100. for 5-15gallons 100 gallons per hour output Now i installed this one first, primed it and powered it up. The motor did not have enough strength to suck water thru the U pipe. So maybe my water level was low, i wanted it this way so my cray wouldnt be so inclined to escape. I added water and it sucked water up thru the U pipe for about 3 seconds then lost it again. tried it with a bucket in the sink. same thing. THis will not keep its prime. After looking at the packaging i notice it says on the front in BIG letters for 5-15 gallon tanks. OK. On the back it says in tinnie tiny print for 1-3 gallons. Well it was $5 so what do i expect. Its getting returned tomorrow. Second up was Fluval 1plus internal filter. This is for 12G tanks and does 50U.S. gal/Hour This one actually works!!!! Its a simple design with the filter inside with more room to add additional pads around the one it comes with. Creates a nice current at the top of my tank and only has 6 steps, that my 5yr old could follow on how to set it up. Sadly the store only had one and it was on clearance. But so far so good my crayfish seems happy. If anyone lives close to the Hazleton, Pa outlet store I suggest to steer clear of the Aquatic Edge fitlers and go to the corner to get the Fluval's. |

Most cheaper models of filters don't have the proper seals between the inlet tube and the motor. Adding a gasket or an o-ring where they connect may solve that problem for you. It's good to hear that your crayfish is happy.
