I've read up on how to care for them and I learned about their crazy antics, now I really want some. I even already have the correct substrate on hand. However, most of the websites I looked at don't specifically say how big of a tank they need. I am aware that bigger is always better, but I want to know if 20 gallons is ok or is it just too small? I wouldn't consider putting two in there to be a good idea, but can I put some smaller fish in with one loach? And what kind? I wanted to ask all you weather loach keepers since you are the ones with experience. Also, is distilled water ok?

they're pretty slow growers, but if kept long enough, they can approach 10 inches long ( too large for a 20 gallon in my opinion, since they're pretty active and need room to move about)
but as I mentioned, they're pretty slow growers; it could take a young one that's 2 or 3 inches long YEARS to grow to 5 or 6 inches long. so he may be fine in a 20 gallon for years to come, but eventually he'd out grow it |
