Default plecos in coldwater?

just saw a friends koi pond which had a pleco in its, its 40f out tonight, i thought this was un heard of...?

When we had a fish pond, we had a large pleco in with the koi. Never had a problem with the cold temperatures.

I think they have a wide temperature tolerance, not sure about extreme highs/lows though
